Since 2020, Transport for London (TfL) has been implementing a speed-limiting program on nearly 200 miles of major roads to enhance urban road safety. In partnership with Vianova, TfL used real-time connected vehicle data to monitor these measures effectively. Over 64 million unique vehicle observations in 2023 helped TfL to observe changes in traffic behavior and improve safety measures.

Thanks to Transport for London's collaboration with Vianova, the organization has been able to:

Enhance Road Safety Monitoring by using connected vehicle data to swiftly identify and analyze reductions in average speeds and heavy braking events.
Optimize Traffic Management by analyzing data from adjacent 'halo' corridors to develop better traffic diversion strategies and address spillover effects.
Facilitate Proactive Adjustments by using real-time data to promptly adjust road safety measures in areas where speeds had inadvertently increased.
Support Data-Driven Policymaking by utilizing insights from ongoing data collection to plan future safety initiatives, strategically using predictive models to target areas for intervention.
